Minnesota's Most Unaccountable Politician — Exposed
She entered the US under a fraudulent name. She married her brother for a visa. She funneled campaign cash to her boyfriend. She blocked recognition of Somaliland. The receipts are all here — and the election is over. Now what?

Minnesota sent her to Congress. Here is what she did with it.
This is not a behavioral analysis. This is a documented record — names, dates, agencies, and consequences. Every item below has been reported by mainstream outlets, investigated by federal agencies, or confirmed in public filings. The internet has not forgotten, even if the media has moved on.
The Name
Her name was not always Ilhan Omar.
She entered the United States as a refugee in 1995 under the name Ilhan Nur Said Elmi — the name of a different family entirely. Her own family, the Omars, were not on the approved refugee list. The Elmi family was. According to investigative reporting by the Star Tribune, Alpha News, and others, the family used the Elmi name to gain entry into the United States.
That is immigration fraud. It is a federal felony.
She has never directly addressed it. The media largely stopped asking.
The Brother
In 2009, Ilhan Omar married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi — a British citizen who shares the last name of the family whose identity her family allegedly used to enter the country.
Multiple investigative journalists, including David Steinberg at PJ Media, documented evidence that Ahmed Elmi is her biological brother. The marriage, they concluded, was likely arranged to obtain a US visa for him.
She was simultaneously in a long-term relationship with — and later legally married — Ahmed Hirsi, with whom she has three children.
The Hennepin County Attorney reviewed the case. No charges were filed. The investigation was quietly closed.
She divorced Elmi in 2017. She has never explained the relationship.
The Money
In 2019 and 2020, the Federal Election Commission found that Ilhan Omar's campaign had improperly paid over $3 million to a political consulting firm — E Street Group — run by her then-boyfriend (and later husband) Tim Mynett.
She was paying her boyfriend with donor money. While married to someone else.
The Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board fined her campaign $3,469 — a rounding error on the amount involved.
She married Mynett in 2020. The payments continued.
Somaliland
This one does not get enough attention.
Somaliland is a stable, democratic, self-governing region in the Horn of Africa that has been seeking US recognition for over 30 years. It is strategically important. It is pro-Western. It has been a reliable partner in counterterrorism efforts.
Ilhan Omar has repeatedly and actively opposed US recognition of Somaliland — the very region her own family fled, and the region that has been fighting for its survival against the Somali federal government in Mogadishu.
Why would a US congresswoman use her seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee to block recognition of a democratic ally — one that happens to be the enemy of the Somali federal government her family is aligned with?
That is a question she has never answered.
In 2023, credible reports emerged that she had shared sensitive information with foreign contacts connected to the Somali government. The reports were investigated. The details remain classified. She denied everything.
What is not classified: her voting record, her statements, and her consistent pattern of advocacy that benefits Mogadishu and harms Somaliland.
The Rest of the Record
- Called for defunding the Minneapolis Police Department — in the city that burned in 2020
- Called the United States a "terrorist state" on the floor of Congress
- Called for the dismantling of the "system" — your courts, your police, your military
- Voted against the Iron Dome funding for Israel — one of only 9 members of Congress to do so
- Has repeatedly made statements that were formally condemned as antisemitic by members of her own party
- Accepted $2.8 million in outside spending from organizations linked to foreign-aligned PACs in her last election cycle
Watch the Full Breakdown
A detailed behavioral analysis of her public record, her patterns, and what it all means:
Watch it. Share it. Send it to everyone you know.
The Election Is Over. The Noise Is Not.
November 3rd has come and gone. But Ilhan Omar still holds a congressional seat. The documented record above did not disappear when the polls closed. Neither did the questions.
This is the moment to make unavoidable noise.
Your Minnesota legislators, your state senators, your governor — they all know this record exists. They have chosen, repeatedly, to look the other way. That choice has a cost, and it is time to make sure they feel it.
Here is what you can do right now:
- Call your Minnesota state legislators — tell them you are aware of this record and you expect them to speak up. Find your rep at mnleg.state.mn.us
- Contact your US House representative — demand they put this record on the floor. Find them at house.gov
- Share this post — the more Minnesotans who read this documented record, the harder it becomes for elected officials to pretend they have not seen it
- Stay engaged — follow A.J.'s ongoing coverage at the blog
Minnesota's elected representatives serve Minnesota's people. Every one of them who continues to remain silent on this record owns that silence. Make sure they know you are watching.
We the People are paying attention. It is time they did too.
